Pegasissy's Russ Melia takes a stab at a familiar subject, the unstable and dramatic world of myspace emo rock, with its kill-me songs, nihilism, jewel cases and such. Many of us have certainly been intimate enough with this scene to get the joke, which is delivered by Russ as Geoff McCreedy, a seemingly wimpy boy who has just recently saved enough money from working at the local 711 to afford an hour or two at a low-end recording studio somewhere in the pacific northwest. After listening to the first couple tracks of this 6 track EP, this joke quickly reveals itself to be a masterful feat of fakery. Not that we're saying that Russ playing Geoff is taking him far outside his world of familiar... it's just that Geoff seems so real. Even though we know this music is supposed to mimic the teenage catmews reacting to sudden changes in hormones, we truly empathize. I suppose much of Geoff's humanism is comes in the between-song banter between Geoff and the unnamed 'Producer', played by Advrb's Andrew Barton. Poor Geoff... all his luck has run out- gone is his boyfriend Miles, his bandmates, his studio time, and his mental health. Russ has instructed us to send half of the proceeds of this CD to the Trevor Project, a 24 hour suicide hotline for gay and questioning teens. By doing so, Russ makes this EP all the more bold and interesting. For this reason, we are charging an abnormally high $10 for this EP. livexxfreexxandxxdie 1 |
