Bummer in the Summer - Front

ADVRB - BUMMER IN THE SUMMER

Also known as Nothing In The Sky Responds, this record documents Andrew's terrible summer of two thousand and six.

It is a simple and perplexing collection of songs. Tracks 1-5 are ear splittingly loud rock songs, performed bare bones style with improvised drums and tracks of affected electric guitars. Tracks 6-10 are layered, atmospheric, quiet, and very pretty songs. Track 11 is a 9 minute epic which contains the elements of all the other songs on the record.

"I made Bummer In The Summer because I was finding myself unable to talk to anyone about what I was going through and I really didn't want to. It was better to just appear happy and content day to day, to not dwell on it, or make it anyone else's problem.

So after a conversation about the intense times, I set up the mics while James Herman played drums. He knew what was going on with me, and that came through. When I had a house to myself, I turned up my broken amplifier too loud, and I just played and played and played. The lyrics didn't get compiled or sung until 6 months later, in Montréal Québec.

The other songs just have my acoustic guitars and creaky piano and little other accompaniment- keyboards and autoharp make their appearances, but only breifly. "
